Track: Hagg Tor
Hagg Tor (aka Hagg Farm) is a bridleway near Ladybower & Derwent in the Peak District, UK. This page is intended to provide information for mountain biking on the track.
Rating: Technical / Speed / Fun: |
|
Height Descent / Distance: 130m / 0.61km
Surface: Dirt. Rocky, loose, embedded, and bedrock. Quite technical with sweeping 'bermed' switchback corners. 2m wide track.
Location: SK 163 889 - Monkeyspoon OS Tracks Map - OS Get-a-map - Google Aerial Map
From the Bridleway crossroads on the ridge, at 362m, the HaggTor bridleway zigzags its way down to the A57 Snake Pass and crosses it continuing down to the bridge over the river at 227m.
The top is quite fast with lots of smooth naturally ‘bermed’ switchbacks and corner, the wide lines of the corners are smooth dirt but everywhere else there are small to medium sized loose rocks. The last switch back before the gate has a tree overhanging it. The middle section starts with 100m straight followed by a 180° switchback. Following this there are sheets of bedrock and embedded rocks with a few large loose rocks to avoid. A short tarmac section follow (watch out for vehicles, this is an access road to Hagg Farm) before you reach and cross the busy Snake Pass A road. The section below the main road has been surfaced with loose gravel chippings, giving terrible grip and making it dangerous if you need to brake sharply.

Hi guys, came across one of your vids on youtube and thought I would browse your site. Nice rides you have there. I was just wondering if I could incorporate any into this ride.
Were basically mountain bikers from outside Leeds and have been venturing into the Peaks for some weeks now. Any advice/tips you can give us on the above course would be greatly appreciated. Yeah it is long, but we did Leeds to London MBR couple of years back so don’t worry
Thanks
Matt

Hi Matt,
Looks like you’ll come down Cut Gate which is quite good in place, down to the reservoirs.
You could go up Gores which is quite a long climb with a fair few rocks at the start. Then you have a choice; you can descend HaggTor and go up HopeX DH, I’d be surprised if you didn’t have to push most of that cos its mega rocky (especially if its at the end of the ride). OR You could turn right at the top of HaggTor and take the more gentle descent to the Snake Pass and a gentler climb (but with lots of large loose rocks on one straight) up Blackly Clough to Hope Cross. Then you’ll be going down Jagger Clough to Edale.
Hope that’s helpful, I can email some pictures (that aren’t on here) from bits of that route if you want?
Looks like a long ride.
Jeff

Nice looking and informative site guys, well done. Any plans to post gps routes of rides in the future?

Thanks. We’ve got the possibility of doing routes within the OS map feature we have and it could calculate total distance (we’ve tried a basic one in this post). But we don’t use GPS devices ourselves so we probably wouldn’t go that far.
