WinHill & Hurst Clough 26-01-08

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

Yesterday Irwin and I headed up WinHill, we met in Thornhill and went down the footpath to the railway, the last wooded section was a Class 1 Sloppenfest, with back wheels weaving all over the path. We then went up to the moorland single track and had two good runs down there, fortunately the strong wind was behind us.

I rode the root section below the steps, while Irwin took pictures, then we swapped over for the top section of Parkin Clough. I was pleased with my flash which could light Irwin up from the other side of the gully, 8-10 metres away.

Later on we went out to Hurst Clough which wasn’t as wet as expected, only the run-in on the first straight was covered in water. We did a few runs and took some pictures, which I was fairly pleased with.

Coast-2-Coast

Monday, January 14th, 2008

The mother of all epic rides.

Having got my new ‘lighter’ bike for xmas, my dad saw that the time was fit to encourage an attempt on the legendary coast-2-coast ride that he had completed a good 10 years or so ago. Its a gruelling 223 mile, five and a half day off road ride. Spanning the width of Northern England from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay. If that doesn’t mean anything to you, to put it in simple terms it means riding right through the Lake District and over its numerous peaks. Across the Dales and then the North Yorkshire Moors, well I think that’s it any way.

I have spoken to Jonny and Irwin and mentioned the idea to Joe and Osian and I propose a Monkeyspoon/DHP attempt. My dad has already agreed to act as the support vehicle so we wouldn’t have to carry tents or anything other than food and water and a basic repair kit.

As far as timing goes, our exams all finish around june 20th, (Jonny finishes earlier and would have to miss school). So possible weeks are the 23-29 June, 30(June)-6 July, 7-14 July so as to have completed it before Jonny leaves for the Ardeche.

I also feel it would be a good idea to use it as a way to raise some money for a worthwhile cause. I am however lacking any idea of which worthwhile cause and any proposals would be much appreciated!

There is a little more information route wise here.

Cheers Nicky

P.S. I’ve ordered that book!

Link & Site Updates

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

I’ve change the addresses of the pages and posts, eg the their ID number that is shown in the URL address ie http://monkeyspoon.com/?page_id=50. This means old pages and posts will now have their previous URLs, so links from other sites to the video page will now work correctly. I also moved new post IDs to better position so they follow on from the old posts. This does however mean that Recent Comments in the Sidebar will only show comments from now on. But apart from that it all seems good and working (I hope).

But let us know if you experiencing any links not working. Leave a comment here with the Target URL (right click the link and do Copy Link), and the Source Location URL, eg the page you where in at the time (that’ll be in the address bar up top). Thanks.

Other recent features include addition of the Videos and Links pages, and the Subscribe to Comments options, can also edit any comment make for five minutes after you make it. The comment posting system now uses ‘AJAX’ so it doesn’t refresh the whole page, it just adds the comment on the bottom. There is also a spell checker option. There are now buttons for formatting the comment text and adding links and images too (make sure any image you link in not wider than 640 pixels tho), and remember any style tag button you have to click it where you want the format to stop.

I’ve also added the for Users to have an Avatar, you may remember this from the old site version, but this time round I’ve done a proper Admin pager for it (along with some other boring code improvements), which you will find in your Profile page, up the top the LCA Uploader tab. Once you’ve uploaded your picture it will be displayed next to your comments. I’ve had to customise this plugin a LOT so let me know if you have problems or error messages.
