Christmas Riding Plans

So who’s up for some riding? Irwin wants some EPIC distance.

~~Boxing Day (Sunday 26th)~~ and New Years Day (Saturday 1st) have been suggested so far. These could change or be added to, depending on when people are available and the weather.

Christmas Riding 2009

In previous years we’ve had Christmas themed rides and boxing day rides, but I don’t think we did one last year. So now is time to plan who wants to join us this year and where and when.

So far Thursday the 24th (Christmas Eve) and Saturday 26th (Boxing Day) are marked for rides. The usual route for Christmas rides is our traditional EPIC loop, comprising 4 or so of the best downhills, which we normally session best bits of. This route will be done on the 26th, no route is planned for 24th yet, suggestions are welcome. Irwin and I are off work after Christmas ’til the 3rd of January, so there may be a ride around the start of 2010 too.

Anyone who knows us is welcome to join us, just leave a comment below.

Meeting at 9.30 at the pump track or 9.50 in Aston, and as with other Christmas ride bring warm clothing/gloves food/drink enough for a full day ride.

Ambergate 18th October

So Ambergate is somewhere I have only ever visited once before, back in May with Jeff . Ambergate is often compared to Wharncliffe, but I feel it offers something slightly different. The hill for one is nowhere near as steep or as big as Wharncliffe so the tracks offer a generally less intimidating proposition.

I lost count of just how many riders there were out but at there were at least 15 people i would say, a couple of people i had met before such as the dog man, and Eamon and many new people. Sorry i cant remember many of your names. Anyway this was the first time out with my new Nikon D40 Camera, i bit of a steep learning curve but i am please with quite a few of the shots so something to build on. The Camera itself if awesome.

This section of the track was causing a fair bit of interest if like me you were not the one riding it as what looked like a simple bomb hole gap/step down was catching most people out as there wasnt much of a kicker to help you clear it instead the rider had to almost bunny hope the gap. James (not me ) on his new V-10 was making it look easy even having time to give it abit of style. Whilst i was laying on my back looking up trying to take a low panning shot of the gap i was taken by just how calm and peaceful the trees were, even with us in there.

After a while we moved onto another of the tracks in the woods which featured a fairly tech rock garden. After checking the lines and forgetting them! Everyone was hitting it well, with v10 James showing his local knowledge in doubling up what most were taking a two separate drops.

Pump Track this Saturday Afternoon (10th)

From 3:30pm on Saturday (10/10/09) we’ll be riding at the Bamford Pump Track. There’s a big new bowl berm opening new lines, possibilities and challenges (see left). Saturday should be dry and reasonably warm and maybe our last to ride the track in dry conditions. I’ll bring my camcorder and hopefully shoot enough for a vid.

Thursday night pump track meet?

Me and Jonny were down there tonight, Jonny was persisting with the 360s but not quite making it, we added more to the second jump’s landing and re-shaped its take off to make it steeper. Jonny was almost there on his last attempt but hurt his wrist a bit so called it a night.
I added the a small roller after (or before) the S berm that joins into the mini-loop, it needs more soil but at least now the line is rideable.

So who’s around for Thursday night? Jonny was up for it and I’ll be there, Nicky and Irwin are in France (update & pics soon…). So provided it’s not properly raining aim to get there for 7pm?

Also don’t forget the Clough Climb is this Saturday. Who else is going? I think they might need some marshals.

8th May, Pump track sesh

Right there is going to be a gathering down at the pump track again tomorrow night (Thursday). Been riding down there a lot the last couple of nights it is super super dry and is running very fast. With loads of new lines and the recently completed jump line. Not sure on a time, but i guess i will be down there from about 6 maybe before then. So far there is Myself, Jeff, Nicky, Jonny and Shane but anyone is welcome to come along. Make sure you bring lots of water!

Coast-2-Coast; Pratice Rides

The date of the ride is steadily approaching and its about time we stared to get out training! I think Irwin is away this coming week so I’m not sure who’s up for it but everyone is welcome (even if u don’t want to ride c2c). I’m not sure of the route but it will be an epic 25k+. Having had a peek at the rather depressing weather forecast, Tuesday of this week is looking okish!

Any one up for it?

Nice short post, pump track sesh thursday from around 5, list of people attending is growing so make sure you get there. Would be nice to see some people that have been off the bike for a while (Nicky). I will around all afternoon so let me know what your plans are. Pump track is nice and dry and running fast so make sure you bring your hailtails and i will bring the big pump down so we can get some high pressures going. There is some new stuff, allot if you have not been down for a while. So make sure you dont miss out. We should be able to get a good few hours in before it gets dark.

This is a oldish picture of Tim from No cycling railing the far berm, this berm has since increased in size making it even more fun. Please let me know if you can make it. List so far is Jeff, Shane, Jonny, Myself, Matt , Ben Armit and Nicky and i have asked a couple of other people so dont miss out

Okay after this snow has past does anyone fancy going out for a ride on monday or tuesday of next week. Just think this time last year it was the driest march for years shocking. I have spoken to a couple of people about riding on Monday (depending on the weather) ,Tuesday if not so if you are free let us know.

In other news

BMX spraying guide, As most of you will know i recently bought an bmx (second hand). I thought to make it a bit more special i would re-spray it. As a helpful guide to anyone else interested in spraying there frames i thought i would write a short guide of the steps and helpfull hints so look out for that in a couple of days. Shane is also going to respray his hardtail so we should have some more pictures to add in the following weeks.
Helmet camera, Shane is in the process of buying a helmet camera which when up and running will allow us to gets some good quality video footage to add to the “Tracks Page”. To give a better impression of the different tracks around.
Bamford Pump track, I have been down there digging a fair bit the last couple of days so there is some new stuff to test your skills on. But can i please ask that you keep noise to a minimum and make sure you pick up any litter.

Further update Right got the frame sprayed and put everything back together so this is what it looks like now. I have got some crank arms, just waiting on an axle so i can put them on. Plus i have ordered some Fit (bike make) stickers to put on it so everyone knows who made it. Would be nice to know what everyone thinks to the colours, so please let me know.
